MDLXIII is a concept work about the volcanic eruption that devasted the central part of São Miguel Island, in 1563. In this EP, In Peccatum tries to give voice to the terror and dismay felt by the early settlers, surprised by the enraged bowels of the land. The lyrics of the EP are mainly influenced by Gaspar Frutuoso’s work Saudades da Terra (a XVIth century historian, who witnessed the eruption) and directly quote two passages from the book. Furthermore, the band added to the recording traditional instruments such as Azorean guitar and mandolin.
